Wine Spectator: Rich, intense and well-proportioned, with spicy currant, cedary oak, dried berry and black cherry flavors that are elegant and stylish, focused and persistent.
The fruit for Robert Craig's 2005 "Affinity" comes from both Robert Craig's estate vineyard in Tulocay, in the southeastern foothills of Mt. George (south of the Stag's Leap District) and warmer upvalley vineyards. The resulting Bordeaux-style blend is comprised of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. The combination of cool and warm climate fruit allows for a powerful, yet well-rounded wine. Packed with black cherry and currant aromas with hints of spice, black tea and violet notes on the nose, the wine gives way to dark fruit and cassis on the palate. Highlights of spice, anise and purple flowers flesh out the mid-palate, while the finish lingers with flavors of ripe black cherry. Complex with lots of depth, this is a luscious cab-driven wine.
