From one of the oldest vineyards in southern Australia, the Pine Lodge vineyard produces a wine of intensity and depth rarely seen. The soils are quite unique, with gravely loam over white alabaster. The region is very cool, leading to a wine of complexity in both the earthiness of shiraz, and the range of pepper aromatics. The climate also keeps crops very low, which not only maintains intensity, but the right balance as well. This vineyard will always produce wines of enviable longevity. The 2004 vintage has typical intensity of colour. This wine has fantastic cool climate menthol, pine needles and mint. An earthiness characteristic of this vineyard provides a pungent, savoury nose. The palate builds with menthol, savoury plums and spice. It has a well disguised weight with very high quality tannins from the tiny berries. The length is complex with earthy characters lingering. With a structure like this, this is a wine that will age steadily.
