Importer's notes: Philippe and Corinne Ehrhart are the current proprietors of this family-run domaine, which dates back to 1725. Located in the small village of Wettolsheim, about 5 km from Colmar, the estate is composed of 21 hectares of vineyards which are found in ten different communes. The Ehrhart family committed themselves to organic farming two generations ago and the wines are currently all certified organic. The work is done mostly by family members, including Philippe’s father François and his son Florian. Each parcel is vinified separately upon harvest, and the wines rest on their lees for up to six months before bottling. The Riesling vines in Herrenweg average 35 years. Herrenweg, a combination of gravel mixed with sand, has excellent drainage and a warm micro-climate allowing maximum ripeness while always maintaining finesse and the balance of soil and fruit. The Riesling Herrenweg is an elegant wine, exhibiting a beautiful purity of fruit and wonderful freshness. |
