Winery Notes: Every time we release another 2007 wine, we are amazed at what a truly great vintage it was. If you are looking for more evidence, just uncork a bottle of the 2007 Estate Syrah. This surprisingly soft and elegant Syrah dazzles with generous flavors of blackberry jam, black cherry and vanilla.
Winemaker Kevin Hall's MO has always been to produce wines in what might be called an Old World style and that is true with this 2007 offering. The wine has many of the traits of a great Rhone, albeit with an Alexander Valley imprint. In true Old World fashion, Kevin blended some Viognier and Grenache into the wine. The Grenache, from 85-year-old vines, added some breadth, particularly notes of wild strawberries. The Viognier brightend the color while contributing a beautiful floral element to the wine. The wine then underwent extensive aging in French oak barrels.
